Warm oil, two pairs of hands, ninety minutes of silence.
Classical Abhyanga — the foundational full-body Ayurvedic oil massage performed by two synchronized therapists. Doctor-prescribed at our DHA-licensed Ayurveda clinic in JVC, Dubai. The treatment that changes how you sleep, move, and think.

TRADITIONAL KERALA TECHNIQUE
Performed on a wooden droni by two synchronized therapists — the way it was meant to be.
THE QUICK ANSWER
Abhyanga in Dubai, in one paragraph.
Abhyanga (अभ्यङ्ग) is the classical full-body Ayurvedic oil massage — a 60 to 90-minute therapy in which warm dosha-specific medicated oils are applied head-to-toe in synchronized strokes by two trained therapists. At Vedara Care Polyclinic in Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai, Abhyanga is doctor-prescribed by BAMS-qualified physicians after dosha assessment, performed on traditional wooden droni tables, and used both as a standalone weekly therapy and as the foundation of Panchakarma protocols. Sessions start from AED 450.

A 2,000-year-old daily medicine, performed in Dubai exactly as the classical texts describe.
The Sanskrit word Abhyanga combines 'abhi' (toward) and 'anga' (limb) — meaning the motion of oil flowing toward, around, and along every limb of the body. It is described in detail in the Charaka Samhita and Ashtanga Hridayam, codified over 2,000 years ago.
In classical Ayurveda, Abhyanga is not occasional therapy. It is daily self-care — what brushing teeth is to dental health. Most Ayurvedic physicians prescribe daily self-Abhyanga to their patients alongside the weekly clinical sessions performed in clinic.
What separates clinical Abhyanga at a DHA-licensed Ayurveda clinic in Dubai from self-Abhyanga at home is three things: the oils (medicated to your specific dosha imbalance), the technique (two trained therapists working in synchronized strokes with controlled pressure and direction), and the setting (a warmed wooden droni table designed for the therapy, in a heated private room).
"Abhyanga is the closest thing classical medicine has to a daily multivitamin — except it works through the skin, not the stomach."

Ninety minutes, seven phases, two therapists.
A clinical Abhyanga at Vedara Care follows the classical sequence described in Ayurvedic texts. Each phase has a specific purpose.
Phase 1 — Consultation & Dosha Reassessment
Your assigned therapist begins with a brief check-in — confirming your current dosha state, any musculoskeletal sensitivities, and reviewing your prescription. The oils are warmed to body temperature in a brass bowl. You change into a cotton wrap, and the heated wooden droni table is prepared.
Phase 2 — Murdha Taila - Head & Crown
The session begins with oil applied to the crown (the marma point known as Adhipati). Slow, circular strokes work outward to the temples, the back of the neck, and the upper shoulders. This phase calms the nervous system before the body work begins.
Phase 3 — Pada Abhyanga — Feet
Both therapists work simultaneously on each foot — applying warm oil and using deep, deliberate strokes from the soles upward to the calves. In classical Ayurveda, foot massage is considered second only to head massage in importance. This is the phase patients remember most.
Phase 4 — Sapta Anga — Back & Spine
You turn onto your front. Both therapists work in synchronized parallel strokes from the shoulders along the length of the spine to the lower back and gluteals. Specific direction of strokes follows lymphatic and energetic pathways described in classical texts.
Phase 5 — Sapta Anga — Front
You turn onto your back. Synchronized strokes move along the chest, abdomen (gentle circular motions clockwise, following digestive direction), arms, and front of legs. Abdominal work is always lighter, always clockwise, always slow.
Phase 6 — Marma Stimulation
The therapists work on specific marma points — the 107 vital energy points described in Ayurvedic and martial arts traditions. Particular focus on stress-relief marma at the temples, sternum, and palms. This phase is what makes Abhyanga therapeutic rather than recreational.
Phase 7 — Stillness & Recovery
The final 10 minutes are stillness. You remain on the droni with oil on the body — no further manipulation. This rest period is non-negotiable. The oil and the work need time to absorb. Premature movement undoes the therapy.
Followed by Swedana (medicated steam therapy) on most days, included in your session price. Showering happens after Swedana, not directly after Abhyanga.
DOSHA-SPECIFIC OILS
Three patients. Three different oils. That is the whole point.
Vata
COLD, DRY, IRREGULAR
Patients with predominant Vata imbalance — anxiety, insomnia, dry skin, joint cracking, irregular digestion — receive heavy, warming, deeply penetrating oils. Sesame oil is the foundation, medicated with classical preparations like Mahanarayana taila or Dhanvantaram taila. Pressure is slower, longer, deeper. The objective is grounding.
Typically prescribed for:
Pitta
HOT, SHARP, INTENSE
Pitta-imbalanced patients — irritability, heat sensitivity, inflammatory conditions, certain skin issues — receive cooling oils. Coconut oil or specifically processed sunflower oil base, medicated with cooling herbs like Chandanadi or Pinda taila. Pressure is moderate. The objective is cooling and softening.
Typically prescribed for:
Kapha
HEAVY, SLOW, CONGESTED
Kapha-dominant patients — sluggishness, weight retention, congestion, lymphatic stagnation — receive lighter, warmer, more stimulating oils. Mustard oil base or specialised preparations like Murchita taila. Strokes are faster, more vigorous. The objective is mobilisation, not relaxation.
Typically prescribed for:
Most patients are not a single dosha. Your doctor assesses your specific Vata-Pitta-Kapha pattern and prescribes a blend or sequence. The oils used at Vedara Care are sourced from classical Ayurvedic pharmacies in Kerala with documented quality testing.
